R-Type Final 3 Evolved is targeted toward a specific audience of Shmup-enthusiasts. While fans of this genre will definitely get their kick out of this entry, it is less appealing to a broader audience. The tight gameplay and fun presentation are not enough to cover the lack of content, especially since most of it is reused from the previous game. This makes it hard to fully recommend the game to hardcore fans, which is the core audience.

In the grand scheme of things, though, it’s not the pinnacle of the shoot ’em up genre that it once would have been. Those who already own R-Type Final 2 might feel like this should have been offered as an upgrade rather than an updated re-release parading as a sequel. And while the visuals have been spruced up and more content has been added, notable core issues haven’t been addressed to create more widespread appeal.

I don’t see why this wasn’t a cross-gen title, since its exclusivity will do nothing but hinder its sales. It’s still a good shooter, don’t get me wrong, but I expected more from it. This isn’t what I expect from the next generation of the genre.

Sean Smith · May 01, 2023 Reviewed on PS5Read full reviewR-Type Final 3 Evolved is, in fact, an evolution of R-Type Final 2 as it retains the same slow-paced yet super-difficult gameplay, flashy visuals, and satisfying audio that the previous game established. In fact, it even includes its campaign and on top of that, it has a brand new one which I'll get to in a bit. Of course, this means that the huge collection of ships returns complete with a great sense of reward whenever you manage to unlock a new one.

Quien ande buscando un juego que se sienta next gen a nivel técnico, lo encontrará aquí. Por el contrario, quien ya haya jugado a la versión anterior se planteará si el contenido que se ofrece es suficiente, aunque no es algo que permita hacernos dudar de que R-Type goza de mucha mejor salud de la que esperábamos a estas alturas.

Sufre por un ajustadísimo presupuesto, pide un ligero pulido –algunos jefes de nuevo están poco inspirados, traducciones a medias, modos en beta, gráficos irregulares- y apenas arriesga en nuevas mecánicas o ideas respecto al gameplay de pasados R-Type.

Un juego realmente completo y muy notable dentro de su género, el cual incluye numerosos niveles de dificultad para tratar de adaptar su salvaje nivel de desafío a todo tipo de usuarios.

Manca di una vera e propria novità nel gameplay, inoltre l’implementazione dello shop è priva di contesto e da rivedere, rivelandosi una piccola macchia che non deluderà i fan.
