What is here to tell? This game is a gem of an RPG. Do ypu like decision making, building unique characters and good stories with some twist? Try this, it won't get any better. It also remaind me Planescape: Torment and the is something I wouldn't say lightly. This game could theach a number of lessons to anybody who would like to make a good game. First you can create game (not only) about philosophy and politics without it feeling like you are showing your beliefs down the player's throat. Second, try to do the things bit differently. RPG without fights? Yes, it is perfect and not so uncommon in pen and papper games. Three, there is no need to be always the chosen one that would safe whole world. Four, bigger is not always better. I look at you big open world games full of fillers without substance. Five, good aestetic could beat high detail graphic when done correctly. Six, the decisions in your game shouldn't be black and white.

Disco Elysium

Disco Elysium is a funny game, and I mean that in the best way possible. Wildly entertaining and stylish, it appealed to me as someone who enjoys introspective metanarrative, cosmic horror, and self-deprecating humor. My favorite aspect of the game is how its mechanics inform so much of the world. I loved the flavor text of my abilities, my wardrobe, and my thought chamber almost as much as the writing and dialogue of the main story itself. HDB is a fun character to play and I enjoyed tailoring my playstyle with his ridiculous personality. The game is very pretty - not just in the gritty art style, but the intelligent user interface. I never felt overwhelmed. Spoilers ahead... while it can admittedly get clunky and slow in the investigation phase, you never really get lost and the puzzles are satisfying enough. It also gets you into heart-racing moments - the mercenary tribunal stands out to me as one of my favorite moments in video games. Following the keys and getting to the heart of the mystery was fun because uncovering characters and locations made Martinaise come to life. As a whodunit, I didn't like the conclusion of the mystery but was sufficient to give the story a neat and satisfying close. CRPG fans are already wild about this title, and it does feel like a fresh take on a genre that's largely disappeared. The world and its lore are pretty tight and easy to get into if you're prepared to play a game with a lot of reading. Overall, its style and mythos are so rich and charming (and distinctly Estonian), you'll surely enjoy something about the experience.

I never played anything of such genre . This was my first and it was a hell of a start

Disco Elysium is worth all the praises it's receiving. It's not another run-off-the-mill open-world RPG. It still classifies as one but it strays with the basic tropes found in the genre. First, it's not set in another fantasy-esque world. You don't level up your strength, dexterity, etc. You just wake up and you're free to roam and discover the people and intrigues. You even have to figure out most of the mechanics by yourself. You're basically thrust into the chaos without the usual hand-holding. Second, character building is different and how you level-up unlocks certain paths. Third, the writing is EXCELLENT -- funny, entertaining, political, philosophical, and more. I could have easily given this a 10/10. It comes down to personal taste and I'm not a big fan of the game's visual. Not the artstyle, it's just that the sense of depth is lacking between storeys and can be disorienting. If you're looking to explore a new implementation of "open-world RPG", you definitely have to give Disco Elysium a try.
