Console Players Can Now Try Predecessor with Upcoming Open Beta

Good news for console players looking to get their first try in Predecessor, the MOBA game built from the assets of the now-defunct Paragon.

The Open Beta event for Predecessor will go live on March 28, 2024, developers from Omeda Studios announced. It can be accessed on Xbox, PlayStation, Steam, and the Epic Games Store for free.

This latest milestone also marked another step towards the full launching of Predecessor, according to Omeda. In turn, they revealed that the game will be a free-to-play title beginning this March 28th.

"Predecessor is going fully F2P as part of an Open Beta starting on March 28th," they said in a press release.

Omeda has also provided more details about the upcoming Open Beta test. These included the much-anticipated crossplay feature. This means players from all platforms can join and do battles together.

Developers will also introduce a new in-game currency called Amber. Further details have yet to be disclosed about Amber except that it will serve as another means to acquire cosmetics or rewards.

In addition, Predecessor's latest dev diary hinted about more new content and improvements coming soon.

Robbie Singh, Omeda founder, revealed that works on visual enhancements, new item slots, and a new secret game mode are in the pipeline. He also confirmed they are considering putting up a ranked mode, which they revealed was one of the highly requested feature from players.

In preparation for its global launching, developers also planned to provide French, German, Spanish, Portuguese, Italian, and simplified Chinese language support.

Since its release, Predecessor has amassed a player base of over 400,000, Omeda disclosed.

The third-person MOBA came out in 2022 for PC via Early Access.

It was built from the ashes Epic Games' 2016 MOBA game Paragon. However, they decided to pull the plug two years later after struggling with a declining playerbase. Epic then decided to distribute its assets for free. / ###
