Paper Trail Set for May 2024 Launching

The award-winning puzzle game Paper Trail finally has a release date.

Newfangled Cames announced they will roll out Paper Trail this May 21, 2024. The game will make its way to PC, PlayStation, Xbox, and iOS and Android via Netflix Games, according to the indie developer. They also confirmed that they will release a Switch version during its launching day.

With weeks left before its debut, the Hoffman brothers of Newfangled Games also revealed some of the new content and items they added into the game.

"And since the demo we've added loads and loads of really cool things that we never thought we'd be able to a few years ago," they wrote on Steam.

Upon its release, players can expect bespoke illustrations, a quirky cast, and new environments. Developers also confirmed they can pet the cat in Paper Trail.

"We've been able to make something that we're all very proud of here," the Hoffman brothers added. Meanwhile, Newfangled Games has dropped a new trailer about the Paper Trail.

Aside from the game's iconic, hand-drawn, paper-based world, the trailer introduced players to the lore behind it. The video showed the protagonist Paige navigating between school and family. The latest trailer also confirmed that Paige can interact with several objects surrounding her. Paper Trail has been generating buzz since its initial reveal at Gamescom 2022.

The game tells the story of Paige, a bookish young woman who wants to be the first in her village to attend university. Players embark on Paige's journey through a world entirely crafted from paper. This means the game's core mechanics involves manipulating papers like folding them to reveal hidden paths.

Paper Trail has already picked up over 38 awards and accolades, Newfangled Games said. The game has been awarded the ‘Best Family Game’ at the Gamescom Awards, ‘Game of the Year’ at Reboot Develop, ‘Most Innovative’ at IndieX, and ‘Best International Game’ at SXSW Sydney. / ###
