WWE 2K16 takes a big step back towards being the exhaustive suite of wrestling wish-fulfillment it’s expected to be, but that, for me, is not the reason I’ll keep playing. I’ll keep defying gravity as Adrian Neville, and defying expectations as Dolph Ziggler, because WWE 2K16 is as close to a fusion of performance and competition as a wrestling game has ever gotten. That’s what I come to wrestling for, and that’s what 2K16 delivers.
A big step forward for the series, WWE 2K16 is still some polishing and a new submission system away from being Hall of Fame material, but should make a nice living as a stop gap in your library before hopefully bridging the gap to a bigger and better game next year.
Overall, WWE 2K16 is an adequate follow-up to the highly disappointing WWE 2K15. The game packs a ton of content as there are well over 120 wrestlers for you to play and several more features have been added back. That said, it still has a long way to go to reach the heights of ‘Here Comes The Pain’ or ‘WWF No Mercy’. Still, this should satisfy hardcore WWE fans until next year’s game comes around.
