What’s most apparent about Woven is that it is clearly a labor of love and the game’s environment is very refined in its structure. It’s clear that the developers spent a lot of effort in play testing, in object placement, mood and setting. It’s a beautiful game with a difficulty that may be in the upper strata for some but an enjoyable challenge for others. If that sings to you then this is your game.
Woven provides a pleasant experience with a nicely narrated story that will be very well suited to young children. While the technical issues are likely to go unnoticed by the target audience, they are enough to ruin the experience for anyone who plays games regularly. There isn’t much here that the average gamer would find enjoyable. With that being said, for parents looking for a game to introduce their children into gaming, you couldn’t find a better game than this.
Overall, Woven is best described as a gaming experience that caters for a wide audience, but as a result, hinders itself a tad. There’s a lovely world and rhyming tale that kids will adore, whilst grown-ups can embrace the collectible element. The puzzles could do with being more interesting, however the whole idea involving using Stuffy’s patterns as solutions is pretty neat. However, back-tracking does become a chore at times, yet one thing everyone will agree on is the superb narrator who brings every moment to life.
