Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus is an excellently crafted first person shooter that brings a near perfect blend of cinematic sequences and thrilling gameplay. It’s visually stunning, it feels great to play, it runs magnificently well and there’s a decent amount of content within which is further heightened by the generous serving of replay value. This is all tied together by some stellar voice acting across the entirety of the cast.
By the end of Wolfenstein II; The New Colossus, I felt overwhelmed. It was a lot to take in, so much so that 15 hours felt like so much less. It was like going to a rock concert, riding a roller coaster, and reading a thinkpiece condemning the alt-right all at once. When I jumped in, I wasn’t sure what to expect, especially with so much of the marketing playing up the comedic elements.
Developer Machine Games also brought the most amazing characters, quality storytelling, and well-paced gameplay to The New Colossus. You’ll want to spend time with these people and learn their fate — sometimes that will warm your heart, and sometimes it will break it.
