The Vanishing of Ethan Carter is at times a grotesquely beautify game. If you prefer your beauty a little less grotesque, this mode is for you. You walk around exploring the enchanting that world they have created – minus all the blood and suspense. I found this to be a great way to really look at the environment instead of just combing the area for clues to advance the story. While I explored nearly every inch of the world looking for clues, it wasn’t until trying this mode that I realized how much of the world I had missed.

The Vanishing of Ethan Carter is a solid experience that I really enjoyed taking. It could have benefitted from a little more structure and fleshing out the characters a bit more. Still, it is great to finally have the game come to Xbox, and I am happy to have experienced it.

The lack of direction might put off some players, but credit must be given to The Astronauts for creating an engaging experience that lingers long in the memory. The Vanishing of Ethan Carter might not be as outwardly scary as something like Resident Evil 7, but it's a great lesson in establishing a creepy ambiance.
