If, like me, you love The Surge 2 and are after some additional content to draw you back into the game, you’ll enjoy your time with its Kraken expansion but will be very disappointed with its short running time. It just doesn’t add enough to the game to warrant its cost. And once again, it can be awkward to access depending on how much progress you’ve already made. Don’t write off the Kraken expansion entirely, but seriously consider waiting until it’s on sale to pick it up.

The suburban setting does mark a nice change of pace and the boss encounters are well-crafted, but we can't help but feel that it should have belonged as just another part of the base game. Let's hope that more content is planned beyond the season pass as this would make for a rather disappointing conclusion to an otherwise quality sequel.

Now, I like the Surge 2, and I liked its predecessor, and so to me The Kraken is an enjoyable break from the main story. It isn’t as big as the DLC from the first game, particularly the The Surge – A Walk in the Park expansion, but it is still fun. If you have the game for free with Xbox Game Pass I’d say that buying The Kraken is probably just about worth your time. If you like the Surge 2, The Kraken on Xbox One is a short but fun expansion at a reasonable price. And really, what more could you wish for?
