Since its release, the game has seen numerous discounts already, making it an even better time to jump into it, whether you're a fan of Elder Scrolls, or simply wanted an MMO on your console without a monthly commitment, that you can freely jump back into at your own leisure. The controls have been perfectly tuned to consoles, making it very easy to jump in and get acclimated.
There's a ton of great content in The Elder Scrolls Online: Tamriel Unlimited waiting for solo and group-focused players alike, including crafting, PvP, four-man dungeons, and raid-like Trials at the endgame. The gamepad controls are pretty good, which makes the action-heavy combat work well from the couch. And except for some limitations from the voice-only communication system, it nails most of what I love about PC MMORPGs.
It's missing that spark of magic that enticed us to get lost in Skyrim or Morrowind for months, or that made us happy to fork over a monthly fee just to access our current favorite game. It seems like so much effort was put into forcibly translating Elder Scrolls' style into the genre's norms, but the payoff for that effort isn't there. Even in its best moments, Elder Scrolls Online is merely a competent traditional MMO; at its worst, it flubs even that.
