Summary

Set on the unforgiving world of Pandora after the events seen in Borderlands 2, this is a story full of Borderlands’ trademark humor, following two adventurers on their quest for greatness. You’ll play as Rhys, a Hyperion ‘suit’ with dreams of being the next Handsome Jack, and Fiona, a Pandoran con artist looking to score her biggest ever swindle. Thrown together as unwilling partners in an adventure to recover cash they both think is theirs, their journey will take you on a wild ride where gangsters, bandit lords, and Vault Hunters are just some of the obstacles you’ll encounter.

Tales from the Borderlands Episode 1: "Zer0 Sum" is everything I'd expected from Telltale's take on this franchise, executed with such skill that it's hard to find anything to complain about. This first episode of a five-episode season never went more than a few minutes without moving the story along or making me laugh. It's an enjoyable, violent and well-crafted introduction to the series. Episode 2 can't come soon enough.

However, it did grab me as a well written piece of game comedy, and those might be even rarer than the dramas, horrors, and mysteries we have seen throughout gaming’s history. Tales from the Borderlands: Episode 1 - Zero Sum is undeniably fun, and I can’t wait to see what further episodes bring. Until them, I AM THE CAPTAIN OF THIS POOP TRAIN! I’M GOING TO FILL YOU UP WITH BEES AND PLAY YOU LIKE A HARMONICA!

This is likely the best first episode out of any of the episodic seasons Telltale Games have delivered thus far. The gameplay is enjoyable, even if there were few open areas to explore, and the flow of the narrative can only be applauded. We cannot wait to play the second episode and see how this adventure plays out, but before then we'll play through the first episode a second time with some different choices at key moments...
