I enjoyed seeing how the scope of the game expanded with each book. By the third book, things really start to feel like a regular RPG adventure. Some players will love this, but I liked the more structured approach of the first two books that feel more like the original gamebooks. Overall players can get a lot of playtime and enjoyment out of this collection, but the fact that the game lacks a typical multislot save system really hurts the product.
Combat is a canker in the wonderful, sprawling branches of Steve Jackson’s Sorcery!: The Complete Collection. We learned to avoid it so that we could focus on what was good, which was virtually everything else. This is a loving, loyal adaptation of some stellar adventure game books, and losing ourselves again in the dungeons and alleyways of Titan gave us a shiver of nostalgic glee. Whether your motivation is reclaiming your youth, or exploring the early days of RPGs, then Steve Jackson’s Sorcery!: The Complete Collection will put you under its spell.
Excellent writing, an incredible number of choices with consequences that genuinely impact the whole journey, and a ton of replay value, Steve Jackson’s Sorcery! – The Complete Collection is an absolute treat of an RPG, and if you love the genre, you should play it. The only black marks on it were the menu navigation and the bugs I experienced, but they weren’t enough to make me not want to recommend it.
