Summary

Spintires: MudRunner is the ultimate version of the million-seller indie hit Spintires coming to PC and, for the first time, consoles. Like Spintires before it, Spintires: MudRunner puts you in the driver’s seat and dares you to take charge of incredible all-terrain vehicles, venturing across extreme landscapes with only a map and compass as your guides! A huge upgrade over its predecessor, this edition comes complete with a brand-new Sandbox Map joining alongside the original game's 5 environments, a total graphical overhaul, a new Challenge mode with 9 dedicated maps, 13 new vehicles, and other comprehensive improvements. It’s not just an enhanced edition, it’s the ultimate off-road experience!

Spintires: Mudrunner is an interesting game in a genre nobody knew existed. Believe it or not, there has been previous games in this series. It is a niche title landing at an inopportune time. Released when the flow of Fall releases are not flooding the market might have helped its chances. However, anyone who digs in is sure to find a gem buried underneath the mud.

It would be easy to dismiss Spintires: MudRunner as a niche title but in truth it’s surprisingly accessible. It can drag sometimes and if you think patience is a dirty word, steer clear. But for the most part it’s an engaging, messy time sink that’s well worth getting stuck into.

Visually and audibly it is on par with the best of last gen but you might want to bring along your Pandora or Spotify playlist. Controls are easy to grasp. Sadly, for me, it just isn’t fun. It really feels too much like work rather than a game. It sucks up sooooo much time. And to make matters worse, I’m not getting paid. Saber Interactive is a good studio nonetheless. I would love to see their physics system with mud and extreme machines in a good war game with destructible environments.
