Sniper Elite 3 takes players to the unforgiving yet exotic terrain of WW2’s North Africa conflict in a battle against a deadly new foe. Equipped with Tiger tanks and the latest weaponry, Germany’s infamous Afrika Korps have the Allies outnumbered and outgunned. Worse still, intelligence indicates the Nazis are developing a super weapon in Africa that could destroy all hopes of victory not just in Africa, but in the whole war. It must end here. Sniper Elite 3 certainly has its share of thrilling moments, whether you’re hunting blissfully unaware soldiers or being tracked by countersnipers in ghillie suits, but there are too many technical and narrative issues to simply ignore. In a world overflowing with military shooters, it takes more than an over-the-top kill-cam and a few neat ideas to shoot through the competition.

Where multiplayer is concerned, the modes are all various forms of deathmatch. You have the standard team and free-for-all, but the most interesting ones are based around the Sniper Elite gameplay. ...Sniper Elite 3 has its moments, but they are too few and far between. Every so often you'll find yourself enjoying it, but that soon fades as you enter a pattern of shooting hundreds of dudes until you can move forward and snipe again.

Glitchy level geometry and the gung-ho tone render it a touch too charmless to rank as one of the great B-games, but it competently delivers on its premise. With each level supporting multiple different approaches past its idiotic guards, and stuffed with collectibles you'll easily overlook amid the drab design, it could easily soak up those long days waiting for the next Xbox One release.
