Payday 2: Crimewave Edition is deserving of two separate scores; One based off playing the game solo or with strangers, and the other playing with friends. It's truly a completely different experience. The former had me irritated and frustrated, usually resulting in a failure of the job, while the latter had me laughing, on the edge of my seat, and itching for "just one more" mission. Sadly, that's not how we do things around here, so I'll just have to settle on one.

There is no excuse for an online co-op focused game to ship with the online side of things not working. It is even more inexcusable that a patch hasn't been released yet to remedy the situation. At the time of writing, the game has been available for three weeks and is still broken. Payday 2: Crimewave Edition is an embarrassing, broken release that should be avoided by consumers and is a black eye on the current state of video game publishing.

Payday 2: Crimewave Edition isn’t broken to the point of being unplayable, but it has just enough issues to make it annoying. While the dynamic, exciting gameplay that Payday fans have come to expect is certainly here, this port would have wound up better with a bit more polish and testing. The combination of a sluggish user interface and enjoyment-deflating connection issues makes for a frustrating experience rather than an exciting one.
