Developed using Unreal Engine 4, Moto Racer 4 has revived the craze for the winning formula that made the original trilogy so successful. High-speed races on powerful bikes alternate with motocross on more nimble machines for a white-knuckle ride that remains playable despite the need for technical prowess, with rules of fair-play often put to one side.

It’s extremely limited game modes, online functionality that doesn’t have enough players to find a steady amount of races, fidgety controls and mediocre graphics, Moto Racer 4 isn’t the motorcycle game most people will be lining up at midnight to pick up at the game store, but its short-style races make it fun enough for a quick ‘pick-up-then-go’ game for someone trying to get in a race before work or school.
Moto Racer 4 tugged at my nostalgia from the original PlayStation games, but it left me feeling cold and empty afterwards. I wanted it to be good, heck I would have settled for it being mediocre, but in the end it just feels like a game lost in time.
Overall, it looks nice, and sounds good too, but is let down primarily by the shoddy handling and long load times, with a seemingly inverse difficulty curve, it’s somewhat unforgiving to play meaning there’s not a great deal of fun left to be had. Decidedly average attempt at a reboot of the franchise, with controls that just aren’t fun and load times that sap what was left of any real enjoyment from the title.
