These latter two points may be relatively insignificant, but the franchise mode still hasn't recovered all of the features that were previously purged, and presents limited choices such as not being able to negotiate rookie or in-season free agent contracts. ...Madden's next-gen debut is certainly better than when the series first appeared for the last generation, but there's still plenty of work to be done.
Madden games catch a lot of flack for not changing enough every year, but here’s an example of why change isn’t always a good thing. ...But this new version of Madden 25 meddles with the running game and it screws up the delicate balance between pass and run. Once EA manages to combine all this lifelike ambience and smarter players with responsive control of current-gen Madden, I’ll be a lot happier with the new generation.
Not to mention those painfully long load times and other glitches that continue to plague the game on the Xbox 360 are gone. If you own Madden 25 on current generation systems, you could wait until next year but that could also be a mistake as Madden 25 on the Xbox One feels like a considerable leap over the current generation game. It may be the biggest leap we have seen in the franchise yet.
On that note, you're probably just fine waiting for next year to make the generational leap with this franchise. Unless you've held out this long on buying Madden 25 on any platform, and really, really just want a new--albeit middling--game of football to play for the next few months, Madden NFL 25 doesn't represent enough of a leap forward to make it either a technical showpiece for your new console, nor a more exciting football game than what EA already put out a few months ago.
Madden NFL 15 is an excellent return to form for the series. Yes, it’s still plagued by legacy issues, but the leaps taken on defence, coupled with the spiffy new graphics and excellent gameplay, make this an essential purchase for longstanding fans and a great starting point for players looking to jump on board.
As part of the launch lineups of both of this year's new consoles, Madden NFL 25 is a fine entry that relies on the foundation of the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 versions with a few meaningful improvements. ...Madden 25 lands on the positive end of the quality spectrum, and it's satisfying enough to warrant weekly sessions well beyond Super Bowl XLVIII.
Confusing to newcomers. Microtransactions are crass. More geared towards fantasy football management than actual gameplay. Defense plays itself. Snickers Really Satisfies™, repeatedly, in every game. A superb and detailed imitation of TV football, an occasionally exciting gameplay experience, and what can feel like an exercise in monetisation from EA.
What's american boy!
