Immortal Redneck is a good, lengthy game. With its outdated graphics to the side, the game holds its own and deserves a place up there with Serious Sam. Its fast-paced gameplay offers fun, hilarity, and comes with some truly crazy gimmicks. The biggest downside is that it becomes overly repetitive before long.
Being a roguelike you're always destined to fail, sure, but it never feels the odds are unduly stacked against you. As you unlock new characters, bolster your stats and become more knowledgeable about the game, you know victory will one day come, and that makes your desire to keep at it even stronger. Immortal Redneck is perhaps the best roguelike I've ever played because of that fact, and it's a title you should definitely check out now that it's available on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
Still, everything works well enough to provide the template for a fun, action-packed romp, and Immortal Redneck does offer that at its core. There isn't a ton of content to be had, and the game can verge on repetition, but the plethora of random elements and customization usually keeps the blandness at bay. Those that appreciate a good, straightforward shooter or a gritty, oldschool dungeon crawler should find plenty of enjoyment from this off-the-wall FPS.
