Telltale echoes that narrative structure well, and does a nice job of creating dialogue for Cersei and Tyrion, but the way the story unfolds gives it a much different flow than the show. ...It’s a successful formula, and it works well with Game of Thrones. Duplicating its success from The Walking Dead, Telltale has created an excellent new way for fans to enter Westeros – one that has a unique vibe that sets it apart from the books and show.

This first episode is a bit dense, particularly for newcomers, but the attention to detail is meticulous and appreciated. Telltale’s Game of Thrones manages to capture all the heart-racing moments and sweaty-palmed intensity fans have come to love. This episode sets up a sprawling adventure on the outskirts of the Westeros we know, and need more of immediately.

Players showing up for an authentic-feeling “Game of Thrones” experience won’t be disappointed, however. Telltale manages to drop strong characters and tense situations into an on-going, highly developed and highly beloved universe, to the developer’s credit. ...At least, there’s a ton of potential for the next five installments in this series, and no shortage of twists and intrigue to be found in this inaugural outing.
