In the end, it feels like Dying Light is a 15 hour game that was stretched out to 40 hours. There are good points in the game; they're just buried under a lot of unnecessary busywork. I was hoping for Mirror's Edge with zombies, but I ended up with Dead Island with parkour.

Dying Light’s an ambitious, beautiful, surprising, and incredibly uneven game; its controls are a mess, the story’s is immediately forgettable, and the more the game grabs your hand and tells you where to go, the more you’ll want to shake it free and put the controller down. Dying Light’s core gameplay is solid and offers a uniquely thrilling sort of fun, but for every moment you spend having a good time, you’ll spend just as many frustrated by its shortcomings.

Overall, Dying Light was a fun playthrough; although, it may have been a bit too big for its own good. If there’s one thing that annoys me about open-world games, it’s that they often don’t know when to end. I’m not even talking about the side quests, but the main story itself, which seemingly dragged on towards the end. The last quarter-or-so of the game felt like more of a trial, testing everything I learned throughout the game to get to the final boss.
