Dragon Ball FighterZ is not just a must-play title for gamers who love Dragon Ball Z, but also for the fighting game community as a whole. Playing against friends either locally or online is probably the main reason most people will want to get this, but the Story Mode provides plenty of substance where people who prefer gaming to be a solo experience won’t feel cheated. The year is just getting started, but the bar for fighting games has been set very high for 2018.
Overall, Dragon Ball FighterZ is a game with a lot of potential, but light weight in execution. It’s beautiful, well rendered, and respectfully recreated in true to form Dragon Ball universe style. The story mode stands out as a real catch for fans of the anime. The fighting feels great, but once you dig into the game you’ll notice how limited the number of moves are. For those who enjoy the anime, this is a fun experience that really captures that feeling that you’re really there.
Between the accessible auto combos, homing attacks, and simplified command inputs, Dragon Ball FighterZ is an inviting gateway into the world of fighting games for newcomers — whether you’re a Dragon Ball fan or not. Those easy controls can open the door to some spammy behavior, but just as often it’s satisfying in a way that does right by the Dragon Ball name. Dragon Ball FighterZ has enough depth and complexity to glow as brilliantly as a Super Saiyan.
