Beyond Eyes is a modern fairy tale about finding courage and friendship as you carefully guide young Rae on a life changing journey, uncovering an incredible world, step by step. Blinded as a young child, and reluctant to leave the protection of her family home, Rae’s world is once more shattered as Nani, her pet cat, goes missing. There really just needed to be more of everything: more story, more to do, and more reasons to do it. With such a beautiful art style and such a unique character Beyond Eyes had a chance to be something really special but instead it just feels like walking past a beautiful painting, as it is over in the blink of an eye.
While it is a decent idea and concept, I still feel that Beyond Eyes is far too slow and unsatisfying when it comes down to the end. It took maybe two and a half hours to complete it, and while I still have multiple achievements to unlock, I don’t feel compelled to go back through and get them. While a very beautiful game, looks can only get you so far. I recommend at least a price drop before trying out this game.
It's a shame as Beyond Eyes absolutely excels in other areas and is unlike anything else I've ever played. The tale of Rae and Nani is handled brilliantly, and even the most hardened cynics would struggle not to be won over by how touching it all becomes. But even so, the story and experience come nowhere near to making up for the boredom delivered by the gameplay.
