About this game

Content Rating: Teen

In the era of Venetica, Death walks among the living as a flesh & blood being, carrying out the deeds of an ancient council known by a few as Corpus. Each generation of the Corpus is set with the task of selecting the next predecessor of the bringer of death. Unfortunately, the most recent council had unwittingly selected a crafty necromancer who is determined on bringing death and destruction to the world.

Venetica is not a terrible game by any stretch, but its elements are so mired in mediocrity that it's often difficult to see the good hidden behind the sea of problems. Scarlett is a strong protagonist, and it's really easy to get behind her quest because you play such a pivotal role in shaping who she is. But one strong character is not enough to make this lengthy RPG worth playing, and there isn't a unique hook to make this feel different from other games.

Maybe they did bite off more than they could chew, but they at least had aspiration. None the less, Venetica's over-ambition is its own downfall. The many imperfections that would be ironed out from larger more successful RPGs have not been attended to rendering the game as frustrating, which is a pity.

With all of its flaws and its dearth of enjoyable sequences, I can recommend Venetica to the most patient and dedicated of action-RPG fans. The majority of gamers will grow frustrated and even angry with this trial of a title in its early stages.
