Summary

Spider-Man: Shattered Dimensions blends together the many alternate universes of the world-famous webslinger with four unique takes on Spider-Man's history in comics. In the game, Spider-Man attempts to retrieve a piece of a tablet that's been scattered across multiple parallel dimensions, and in doing so he crosses over to storylines famous to comic book aficionados as variant tellings (including The Amazing Spider-Man, Spider-Man 2099, Spider-Man Noir & Ultimate Spider-Man) of the Spider-Man mythology.

Spider-Man: Shattered Dimension lacks the variety to sustain its 10-or-so hours of length, and the imagination to truly make good on its multiple-worlds concept. The experience is serviceable enough, but it won't inspire you the way that the best superhero games can. All but the most compulsive and devoted Spider-Man fans can experience the best it has to offer during the span of a rental.

For those looking for a multiplayer experience, that’s the biggest letdown, as Shattered Dimensions doesn’t offer multiplayer support. If no multiplayer is a deal breaker, you’re going to miss out on what is the best Spider-Man game I’ve played. An all star voice acting cast, varied combat and stealth, a fun story, great graphics, and challenges built into an extensive skill tree system gives Spider-Man: Shattered Dimensions a lot of replayability.

Creative set-pieces and an awesome concept can only hide a repetitious game structure for so long - and the stealth sections that mix it up are just frustrating. The combat is appropriately entertaining and Spidey-like, but it feels more shallow than it should have, especially with endlessly repeated one-liners going off like fireworks. Fans of Spider-Man might still have a good time, and there are moments of brilliance, but it's otherwise unmemorable.
