Mark of the Ninja is an accomplished stealth arcade game with a ton of fast paced action, intuitive level design and gameplay, and a massive amount of replayable content. If you crave an experience of stealth and technique, a game that will force you to think on your feet and be fast with your fingers, then you will not be disappointed. Like a silent assassin, you won’t see Mark of the Ninja coming, and by the time it hits you, you’ll already be hooked.

For all its twists and buildup, Mark of the Ninja’s story ends with a bit of a whimper, but the game it’s wrapped around is one that welcomes repeated play even after you’ve seen it through the first time. Just like those that inspired it, this slick, demanding game inspires you to revel in the grim possibilities it offers. And when it comes to the precision of its execution, it might just have something to teach the big dogs.

After the mixed reception of Shank and Shank 2, it’s hard to blame gamers for being skeptical about a follow up from Klei. Mark of the Ninja is not “the game that they were meant to make” because Klei is a talented enough studio that can do even more with different styles of 2D gameplay. Yet, the studio has not only redeemed itself, it also managed to make one of the best stealth games of this generation and also one of the best ninja games ever made.
