With erratic pacing and often-aggravating boss fights, Knights Contract doesn't always feel like a worthwhile adventure. Yet though the flashy combat isn't very complex, it's fun to wield your deadly weapon and powerful magic spells in brutal tandem. The problematic gameplay elements can dampen this fun, but the stylish artistic design and interesting story help counterbalance these issues

Judging from this and the similar recent release Majin and the Forsaken Kingdom, Game Republic seems to have a thing for stretched-out escort missions-as-games. But if it's going to convince us that that particular trope is truly a worthy of a full game, it's going to have to do much better than this.

It has fast, intuitive combat, cool, creepy environments, splashy visual effects, good music, solid voice acting, and a story that's fairly fresh, as far as action games go. The sad thing is that all that is undermined by bumbling AI, absurdly difficult and frustrating bosses, and a maze-like approach to level design
