Summary

A first-of-its-kind Bond gaming experience, 007 Legends features an original, overarching storyline that explores the undercover operative’s journey from a newly-minted secret agent to the most beloved, or hated, spy legend there ever was. Players will experience the conscience and gritty evolution of James Bond like never before by tying together five classic Bond movie-inspired missions: Moonraker, On Her Majesty's Secret Service, Die Another Day, Licence to Kill, and Goldfinger.  A sixth mission based on this year’s highly-anticipated movie, SKYFALL, will also be available post launch as downloadable content.

At a time when early reports suggest the celluloid Bond is reaching a new high with Skyfall, it's a shame that his video game counterpart has reached his digital downfall. If you're really dying for a Call of Duty-style shooter experience, then sit tight as Black Ops II has likely got more money than God behind it and it's only a month away.

I assume that double-Os 1 through 6 died horribly painful deaths and that Eurocom is trying to give me some sense of that misery in 007 Legends. While a tie-in to this November's new Bond movie was too good to resist, I'm disappointed that the franchise has to follow up a moderately successful remake like Reloaded with a shoddy patchwork of first-person shooter set pieces and broken stealth gameplay.

Maybe starting from square one with Bond as a character and building a new game around what makes him tick is asking too much. Maybe Activision isn't willing to make the investment a Casino Royale would require. But even a hint of care, a few fleeting moments of inspiration or a base level of craftsmanship would be an improvement on this cynical, dismal little game.
