Summary

Gary is an office worker who oversleeps after a drunken night out on the town. Here's where it gets tricky, because this isn’t the first time Gary's been late for work, and he could be fired if he's spotted arriving at his desk after everyone else yet again. So he'll have to prove he's smart and sneaky enough to make his way up all the 22 floors between him and his office without being seen. Hide in closets, crawl through air vents, slink along the walls… nobody must spot you! Use everything in your reach to get to the end of the level: hide behind a newspaper, smash a vending machine with a well-aimed kick, or use donuts. Want to booby-trap photocopiers, creep around under a cardboard box or give laxatives to your co-workers? From the basement to the boss's office via the research and development labs, explore the zany little universe of LEVEL 22, Gary's Misadventures.

Despite some clunky controls and some glitches, Level 22 is an fun stealth game that adds some quirkiness to a genre that can feel stale at times. It's just the right length to avoid overstaying its welcome, and humorous aspects help the player see past what - at the end of the day - is a fairly elementary, albeit relatable, story.

Level 22: Gary's Misadventures is an enjoyable new perspective of the stealth genre, with goofy personality and sense of humour, amusing and well-designed gameplay, and surprisingly great boss battles. Just the lack of a better closure leaves a few drops of bitterness in the mouth.

All in all, Level 22 is a very worthwhile purchase if you are in the market for a top down stealth game. It is loaded with charm and has some well designed gameplay. It’s not perfect – what game is? – but many will find a lot to enjoy from Level 22. You might be one of them. Just don’t stay up too late playing, or your boss could get mad.
