Angry Video Game Nerd Adventures could have easily been developed as a simple cash-in on the popular AVGN character, but instead FreakZone has provided gamers with one of the best old school style platformers that we’ve seen in recent years. Fans of the characters will obviously find the most joy out of this game, but as a true love letter to classic gaming by combining many of the tropes that defined the era, Angry Video Game Nerd Adventures really is a great game all by itself.
It’s a fun, old-school game that brings back fun memories of similar NES games. Disabling Miiverse screenshots is pretty lame, and sometimes the game’s difficulty is a bit much, but those are just minor problems. Angry Video Game Nerd Adventures is another fun retro-inspired title that’s definitely worth a look if you’re looking for a challenging platformer on the eShop.
If you make a living covering awful games, it's either going to be your dream or your nightmare to make a game so bad you can review it on your own show. When it comes to Angry Video Game Nerd Adventures, it's clear that those involved have the respect for what makes a game enjoyable to put forth a good product while still celebrating the junk. It suffers from some rehashing, and not everyone will find the humour up their alley, but fans of AVGN who also don't mind a good platforming struggle shouldn't hesitate to pick this one up.
