Summary

Many speak of it, but few have ever tasted it the pinnacle of culinary perfection… the Super Dish. Legendary shinobi and sushi chef Hanzo holds a contest to see which of the girls can hone her shinobi arts best for cooking instead of combat. The one who presents the greatest Super Dish will obtain a Super-Secret Ninja Art Scroll that will grant her most fervent desire.

SENRAN KAGURA Bon Appétit! is a rhythm spin-off of the popular bouncy ninja series, SENRAN KAGURA. The story focuses on lighthearted humor, delicious food, and the series’ lovely ladies. Tapping the correct buttons in time with the beat will determine the size and quality of your dish.

Featuring songs sung by six of the girls, plus a variety of other catchy tunes. Dress up your favorite girl and take her to the top of the online leaderboards. Can you create the best Super Dish and be treated to a special feast for the eyes?

Senran Kagura Bon Appétit! is totally tasteless, but that goes without saying. This game’s biggest problem is that its culinary combat simply isn’t interesting enough to hold your attention, and with bland battles, there’s not a lot here to get excited about. Well, that is unless you like naked ninjas panting at you while perched upon a plate of whipped cream – whatever turns you on.

Back in my Shinovi Versus review, I stated that there was more to that title than just the fan service but in Bon Appetit, that’s really all there is to it. It’s a rhythm game with boring mechanics and a laughable list of tracks that aren’t even enjoyable to listen to. Whether you are a diehard fan of the rhythm games genre or the Senran Kagura series, there’s really no good justification for anyone to pick this up.

Everything in this strange little rhythm game comes together in some weird way, from the girls posing as desserts to the fact that this is a musical cooking competition. It's a fluffy bit of cotton candy that works well with the core cast of characters, and Senran Kagura devotees as well as rhythm game fans alike should find something to enjoy here, even if it's just the fact that nearly every character route has inappropriate banter.
