Given its cookie-cutter narrative, polarizing leveling system, and late-game repetition, ACE doesn't address all the issues that plagued players the first time around. If it didn't satisfy your monster-fighting fix back in 2012, there's probably not enough here to draw you back to the battlefield. However, if you're a Ragnarok vet ready for more, or a new recruit looking to hunt some big game of the not-of-this-realm variety, then you'll want to start sharpening that oversize sword.

With repetitive gameplay, many occasions where you have to grind, a not-so-balanced difficulty curve and less than stellar graphics, Ragnarok Odyssey Ace is definitely not a stand out in the boss-hunting RPG genre - though it still may offer a bit of fun to the hardcore enthusiast.

Sure, it may find itself in a bit of a rut by relying too heavily on the same tried-and-true questing system that loses a good level of entertainment fairly quickly, the plot is so transparent that I already forget what the story was all about, and the combat can get fairly repetitive after a while, but what it does well is so admirable that it makes up for a degree of its shortcomings, especially with its budget pricetag and the beautiful visuals on the Vita.
