I got what I expected out of One Piece Pirate Warriors 3, which was a musou game with a One Piece skin. I was just hoping for a bigger roster and more depth in combat, especially considering this is the third game in the series. Even playing through the story mode feels a bit shallow considering how many characters are removed from even cutscenes. One Piece Pirate Warriors 3 is a decently fun game with a cast of unique fighters you won’t find anywhere else, but ultimately it’s a simple musou with a popular anime painted over it.

Equally, fans of Dynasty Warriors will probably go nuts for this title as it rehashes the same old ideas with new characters. For my money, I’d steer entirely clear unless you have a borderline unhealthy obsession with One Piece or Dynasty Warriors, or just really want to wipe out thousands of brainless enemies (which is cool – everybody has their vices).

One Piece: Pirate Warriors 3 makes for a great portable Warriors game mostly thanks to the dream log's relatively short and accessible battles. Jumping into the fray for ten or twenty minutes at a time keeps the experience feeling surprisingly fresh, especially since the fantastic character roster provides so much variety. One Piece fans who only own a Vita shouldn't think twice about buying, while handheld enthusiasts who are new to the franchise should still find plenty of enjoyable content to plunder.
