About this game

In this psychological survival adventure, the masked protagonist must escape from a city ravaged by disease, by any means necessary. Lone Survivor: The Director's Cut is a new kind of adventure where the choice of how to survive is up to you. Sneak through without firing a single shot, or kill everything in your path. Eat and sleep well, or resort to drugs to keep going. Search for survivors, or try to escape the city alone. Look after your mental health, or descend into madness. Lone Survivor is a game where your choices genuinely matter.

Even with its new content and options for alternate endings, Lone Survivor: Director's Cut doesn't really offer enough different experience to justify another purchase if you've played the PC version, unless you're that curious about the new endings. But if you've never experienced this survival horror indie sidescroller before, this is the best way to jump in. The hero's journey seems particularly personal on the Vita in dark rooms, and the Vita's control scheme suits the retro experience implied by the visuals.

Lone Survivor is a short game clocking in at around five hours for completion of the story. Difficult navigation, a cerebral story and unique gameplay make Lone Survivor: The Director’s Cut most suitable for people with a penchant for punishment. Those looking for an action packed jaunt through zombie filled catacombs need not apply.

I’m not usually a fan of the horror genre, but this title is so much more than that. It’s charming, well-written and addictive and is a true pleasure to play, and once you have completed and tried to make sense of the ending you will want to go back for more to see what you have missed. For those wary of the price tag ($12.99 / £9.99 / €12.99) all I can say is that With five different endings in total and so many things dependent on the way you play seeing everything will not only take you a while but really give you a challenge too.
