While Dragon Fantasy Book II is far from a bad game, it doesn't quite live up to its predecessor. The story is hilarious and characters are great. Even the graphics are good with the new models allowing for more expression, but the buggy combat system ultimately weighs the whole game down.

With Dragon Fantasy Book II's bare-bones combat and rampant technical issues, your appreciation of the game will boil down to how much you enjoy puns. The framework is in place for a bigger, more engaging game, but there's just no reason to move beyond the basics. Don't be fooled by its appearances: this classic-looking RPG gets nowhere close to filling the shoes of its inspirations.

Dragon Fantasy: Book II’s over-reliance on exploiting nostalgia leaves little room to take advantage of its too few interesting contributions to the traditional Japanese RPG structure. Consequently, it subjects itself to the same problems that have long since been ironed out.
