The Vita version also comes with two of the sizable downloadable mission packs, two extra playable characters, and an assortment of bonus goodies. And you can take advantage of the cross-save capability if you own Borderlands 2 on the PlayStation 3. The result is an impressive package that delivers exciting combat, hilarious dialogue, entertaining quests, and delightful rewards.

While Borderlands 2 for Vita is a neutered version of the original console title, with the toughest costs coming to the multiplayer and technical execution, it's still one of the best games for the handheld system. The Day One patch has done much to improve the numerous, almost infamous bugs, to the point that the game is recommendable and actually impressive considering how massive the console title is with all the included DLC. That it comes close to the real thing is a feat in itself.

The shrinking process hasn't been kind to how Borderlands 2 runs at all, and that makes what is a very admirable and good-value package content-wise much less easy to recommend. There's still a lot here to love as the original review notes, and squeezing this game onto a portable machine is a feat in itself, but with performance the way it is, it feels something of a missed opportunity. I hope that a fully-fledged, ground-up portable Borderlands title gets its chance at some point in the future - the concept of this series on the go is definitely a sound one.
