Only bought it because it was on sale and it has Duke Nukem in it.

For a game called "_Bulletstom_", ammo is a very rare find and the enemies are complete bullet sponges, but The Duke ironically, isn't. I normally turn off ANY form of aim assist in ANY game I play, (aim assist is for Klebs), but found myself having to turn on the aim lock feature to aim down sights easier since the enemies have the bullet carrying capacity of a full grown Emu and the stupid ammo purchasing system has you wasting all your XP on ammo since drops by enemies are rare and slim pickings when they do. At least you get unlimited ammo for large bosses.

I found myself beating enemies up most of the time due to scarce ammo and the system where you have to buy it is stupid; this isn't that type of game. The controls are terrible and completely backwards and hard to reach with almost no customization options. Evidently, the devs missed the memo that it has been almost universally accepted that the topmost button of the button "cross" is for switching weapons and the leftmost button is for reloading, but the devs completely switched this up.

You can barely maneuver when running, that's just bad. There's an interesting unlimited slide mechanic that you can use to get around this somewhat, and I learned to make it useful in combat. Once you get a hang of the leash, it's a fun piece of equipment to use and can really help you save precious ammo.

I had to go into the controller mapping and create a custom profile just to make this game playable for me. Once I did, I found it to be a somewhat satisfying, gory, visceral bare bones shooter.

The story is forgettable and The Duke makes it somewhat weird swapping out the main character, but gotta love his attitude and one-liners. Not much story there at all, but the action makes up for what is missing.
