Wasteland 2: Director's Cut

Wasteland 2 is still a very special outing. If you haven't spent your time in this irradiated desert just yet, this is one of the best times to do so--especially since the portability of the Switch reissue lets you take the journey on long treks of your own, or as a dense RPG to curl and nestle in with, as you might with an excellent book.

If your spirit hasn’t been broken by a frustrating camera or delayed inputs then the daily game crash right before you’ve saved your progress may be the final straw. As frustrated as I may have been at times, the highs certainly outweigh the lows, and came away with the feeling that any version Wasteland 2 is with playing.

Wasteland 2 is right in line with some of the more recent "Classic RPGs" we've seen making a comeback. If you enjoy the likes of Divinity: Original Sin and adore the idea of that sort of game in a post-apocalyptic world, then this one's for you. It's loaded with content, has a ton of replay value, and unlike many modern RPGs, it really lets you customize your entire experience. Recommended.

The story is fantastically tropey when it comes to the post-apocalyptic genre, which is admittedly getting a bit over-saturated in the contemporary pop culture market. But it is still a lot of fun and the thirty year anniversary of the inspiration behind it is definitely worth celebrating.

Wasteland 2: Director’s Cut on Switch is a missed opportunity. While the underlying systems and crunchy combat are enjoyable – and it just about works as a portable experience – a steady list of irritations make an unqualified recommendation impossible. There’s a solid foundation of gritty turn-based combat with some great writing, but a stubborn camera, disappointing performance and a lack of quality-of-life enhancements means the PC ‘master race’ take this round.

It's not just the main story, the dialogue, and the combat encounters you have to really pay attention to either, as this is a game that requires your full attention at all times, so beware if you're planning on starting the game up during a hectic time. That being said though, if you do have the time to spare and the motivation to stand by this gem either for the first time ever or as a returning player from another console, it's a great addition to the Nintendo Switch's game vault.

Esta versión de Switch mantiene todo este encanto con el añadido de poder llevarte tu grupo de Rangers a cualquier parte, pero lo cierto es que se percibe un port poco cuidado y mejorable, a pesar de todas las bondades que el juego de InXile Entertainment atesora para aquel que esté dispuesto a ir hasta el fondo para encontrarlas.

Wasteland 2: Director's Cut marca a estreia da série nas consolas Nintendo, trazendo todos os atributos que a tornaram uma referência. Com um enredo interessante e variado mediante as escolhas do jogador e um sistema de combate completo e exigente, reafirma-se como um dos melhores jogos na sua categoria, apesar de uma escolha visual datada e de um ritmo demasiado lento para os padrões actuais.

Wasteland 2 è un RPG a turni vecchia scuola, un titolo ostico che nella versione Switch soffre di problemi tecnici e di adattamento. Superare la somma dei due ostacoli non è facile, ma la versione portatile delle Director's Cut recupera qualcosa sul piano tecnico e con un approccio paziente può diventare un'esperienza di grande spessore da portarsi a spasso, un concentrato della storia dei giochi di ruolo a turni post-nucleari e l'ennesimo porting di spessore nella sempre più ricca libreria di Switch.
