The Flame in the Flood encourages you to put long-term goals aside and live in the moment, to make choices and overcome short-term problems with risky but satisfying spontaneity. Despite the awkward menu system, it’s an absorbing game that lets you experience a journey in the present, and fully appreciate the sights, sounds, and joys of floating down the river in its alluring world.

The Flame in the Flood is a gorgeous title that tries to find a good balance between realism and difficulty. The ideas and concepts are smart and make sense, but don’t expect them to delve too much deeper that what is presented at the start. =

I was initially intrigued by The Flame in the Flood but the more I played, the less fun I ultimately had. I think that is because I’m not a big fan of procedurally generated worlds or grinding through a game just to survive. I have to be working towards a larger goal to fully enjoy the ride. However, if you like these types of games, I think you’ll have a blast with The Flame in the Flood. It just didn’t resonate with me personally.
