Building LEGO-like vehicles, and having them explore a vast world, do quests, and shoot at other, similar tanks or planes, might sound like a fine idea for a construction sandbox, but TerraTech isn't really that good at what it does, for the simple reason that this just isn't fun to play, especially since the transition to the Nintendo Switch has you doing all that building and rebuilding with controls that feel out of place.
TerraTech showcases its strengths proudly in focusing on vehicular creations, whilst leaving the rest of the world behind. Unfortunately, this immediately limits both the immersion and enjoyment found within, and leaves the experience feeling like an early-access title awaiting a larger content pack.
At the core of TerraTech is an extensive mechanical construction kit that presents an interesting canvas for creative players. However, the Switchâs significant UI shortcomings, a cumbersome console control scheme, and a limited-feeling campaign will ensure that only persistent players stick around long enough to find the fun.
