Visually, the HD visuals are a nice upgrade from the Wii, but the reworked soundtrack isn’t as impressive as the original game’s. Still, if you haven’t played Blitz, this is the best overall way to do it — as long as you can mainly enjoy the series for its regular stages and don’t mind the lack of a lot of mini-games.
I really wish Sega would have released HD remakes of Super Monkey Ball 1 and 2 instead of Banana Blitz. There are some elements of a good game here, but many of the design decisions for this Wii launch title don't really feel that great in 2019. The game is less welcoming to new players as its predecessors, and the Main Game campaign mode feels disjointed with uninspired and annoying boss battles. I wanted to like this game, as I am a huge fan of the franchise, but this banana does not pass the smell test.
As a return effort the core of Super Monkey Ball is there with Banana Blitz HD, it’ll just be hard to turn people onto it unless you’re going in with a solo mindset. If you haven't ever experienced monkeys in balls before and plan on coming in as a rogue agent, that budget pricing helps.
