Years after taking Stilwater for their own, the Third Street Saints have evolved from street gang to household brand name, with Saints sneakers, Saints energy drinks and Johnny Gat bobble head dolls all available at a store near you. The Saints are kings of Stilwater, but their celebrity status has not gone unnoticed. The Syndicate, a legendary criminal fraternity with pawns in play all over the globe, has turned its eye on the Saints and demands tribute. Refusing to kneel to the Syndicate, you take the fight to a new city, playing out the most outlandish gameplay scenarios ever seen. Strap it on.

It’s wacky, balls to the wall approach to open-world crime games is still in a league of its own, but you could just as easily grab the game on a platform where it runs significantly better than it does on this platform. There are plans of a first-day patch that should hopefully make the gameplay smoother, but in its current state, I can’t recommend it unless you’re sorely in need of some open world shenanigans.

That means my recommendation is decidedly mixed and conditional on how you like to play. If you plan on playing in handheld, you’re pretty safe. But if you want to play on the TV from the couch, you’d be better off breaking out your last-gen console to revisit the best Saints Row game. The Third is still a bonkers experience that revels in being FUN above all else. It's just too bad that it struggles so mightily on Nintendo's latest console, which has shown ample ability to handle a game like this in other cases.

While this game certainly isn’t for all, what’s provided is done so well and in such abundance that I recommend this game to anyone with a Switch and consent to play this kind of game. Not many other games on the Switch can compare in terms of customization, replayability, and sheer scale of its open world.

Full Package should be retitled “Flawed Package” because there are a few issues here that are noticeable enough to hamper the experience. It’s prone to substantial bugs to the point where it freezes, and there’s just a dated feel to it, both in the humor and the visuals. However, while there are noticeable issues, the core sandbox gameplay is strong, and if there is one thing I can say about Saints Row: The Third, it’s definitely not boring.
Andreas Salmen — May 17, 2019
Saints Row: The Third – The Full Package is no masterpiece. It never was. However, it is a fun action game that could've been a decent open-world game on the Switch. Instead, it is one of the most poorly optimized ports we've seen on the system thus far, making it hard to recommend. It is not unplayable and it is still somewhat fun, but the technical limitations get in the way almost all the time.
Richard Seagrave — May 10, 2019
So, if you’ve never played Saints Row: The Third before and can’t imagine playing a game on anything other than the Switch, The Full Package is a must-buy despite its technical issues. To be fair, when docked, the Switch version probably falls in line with the PS3 and Xbox 360 versions anyway. It’s also a must-buy if you use your Switch pretty much exclusively as a handheld device. Only those who have played it to death or are sensitive to framerate issues should give it a miss. Rude and crude, that’s what Saints Row: The Third – The Full Package is. Rude and Crude.

I would recommend Saints Row: The Third – The Full Package for Nintendo Switch. The main story alone houses a ton of insane and creatively-charged set pieces that hold up today, even if some of the side content and jokes don’t work anymore. That being said, if you don’t fall into any of these categories, I would wait for some optimization patches and a slight discount before picking up it up again on Nintendo Switch.

The surprises are still worth keeping for new players or returning players that have forgotten. Volition made a glorious commentary on open-world games by going in the complete opposite direction of its direct competitors. While Rockstar outputs challenging and punishing simulations, the Saints Row franchise still just wants to sit back and hang out. The masterful character work and slowly building absurdity prove that this game isn’t just a joke, even if it does have a giant purple dildo bat in it.

A great open world adventure with plenty of shooting, explosions and a sense of humour. Not amazing, but well worth playing
Dom Reseigh-Lincoln — May 10, 2019
Saints Row: The Third - The Full Package revives an often forgotten open-world adventure on a new console generation, complete with a huge amount of cosmetic and expansion DLC. While it's showing its age mechanically (and in terms of taste), in visual terms it’s a robust sandbox filled with outlandish activities, hyperactive ideas and the kind of diverse mission design most open-world titles fail to fully realise.
GameCentral — May 14, 2019
A terrible port of a game that is very much showing its age, and has no business being repackaged at anything close to full price.
Lisa Dahlgren — May 14, 2019
That said, the price of is very steep for such an old game that's available for other formats and that hasn't been improved. However, if portability is important to you or if you just want a different, longer game to enjoy on the train or on a long flight, it's still worth a closer look.

If you’re in the mood for some crude humour and silly, over-the-top action, Saints Row: The Third is still an undisputed king of ridiculousness. It rewards the player for giving in to their desire to smash cars, blow up stuff, and hit folks with a giant purple dildo (which is an oddly-specific desire). It gives you near-endless stages to be ridiculous in with its reams of content, diversions and included DLC. It’s still THE game for blowing off steam as a silly, murderous troublemaker.
Andrew Rockett — May 09, 2019
It is impressive that it runs as well as it does in handheld mode, but the docked experience is not quite cohesive. This is a 9 out of 10 game weighed down by a 7 out of 10 porting job. The good news is that a lot of those technical issues can be fixed. Even if you are discouraged by the current state of the game, keep an eye on this one, because the experience holds up very well. All these years, later, Saints Row: The Third still does chaos right.
Miguel Solo — May 22, 2019
Alfonso Arribas — May 10, 2019
Sergio Martín — May 13, 2019

Mrderiv — May 15, 2019
