I can't believe it took Game Freak over 20 years to give us an RPG-oriented console Pokémon game, but with the ever-changing mobile landscape and the success of the Switch, the opportunity finally presented itself. No, Let's Go is not the mainline entry that EV/IV min-maxers hoped for, but that's still on the way. If you happen to miss this return to Kanto, that's perfectly fine, but I was mostly delighted to go back.

Pokémon: Let’s Go, Pikachu & Eevee are strong remakes of the original games. The feeling of amassing a giant collection of monsters and customizing your team never gets old, and the timeless turn-based combat is still fun to this day. Shoddy motion controls aside, Let's Go is a great time whether you’re a die-hard fan or a newcomer to the series.

Pokemon Let’s Go Pikachu and Eevee are the newest things to hit the Switch, and just in time for the holidays. A lot of people theorized that it would be a terrible cash grab similar to Pokemon Go, but I have found my childhood again. Pikachu Yellow was my favorite version of the games and Let’s Go Pikachu is one game I will be playing for hours on end. It is a great installment into the Pokemon World, and makes me excited for the Switch's next big installment of the series.

The combat isn’t as feature complete as other modern Pokemon games, and the gen 1 pokedex might turn some people off, but this is a fantastic rendition of Red and Blue that I can easily recommend. Whether it’s your first time or fortieth, Pokemon Let’s Go, Pikachu and Eevee are a trip to Kanto you won’t want to miss.
Jacob DekkerNov 14, 2018
Despite these concessions, Pokemon Let's Go Pikachu and Let's Go Eevee are delightful reimaginings of the series' origins and a deep RPG in their own right. It makes a lot of smart improvements on the original Red, Blue and Yellow while holding on to what made them so special in the first place. Fans of the series might be let down by the lack of features they've come to expect, but Let's Go Pikachu and Let's Go Eevee take the Pokemon formula in some exciting new directions.
Joshua BroadwellNov 19, 2018
Pokemon Let’s GO Pikachu and Eevee won’t satisfy everyone. They aren’t core games in the sense people are used to. But they shouldn’t be totally disregarded as cash grabs either. It’s a relaxing approach to Pokemon, one you can tailor to your own needs and enjoy, whatever your playstyle might be. There’s a lot on offer here, and behind the Pokemon GO add-ins, there are enough recognizable Pokemon mechanics to please newcomers and long-time fans.

Going forward, the Let’s Go series would do well to let go of me. It’s okay to make a game for new and younger players, but it’s not okay to sell that game to stalwarts nearing 30. Let’s Go’s fresh ideas have me excited for the future of Pokémon, but these changes now mar the very experience that had me fall in love with this world.

It will, instead, make new memories to cherish. Let’s Go is the kind of game that I would play with my kids, nephews, cousins young and old. The next generation, born off the backs of Pokémon fans worldwide, can now experience what made the franchise so special for us years ago. Playing together, enjoying the familiar setting of the world we have come to know, and finding a sense of adventure that has long since been lost.
PramathNov 21, 2018
Gorgeous graphics, great soundtrack, some drastic changes to the series formula, such as the removal of random encounters and wild Pokemon battles; charming and cute as all heck, and liberated from the overwrought, railroaded outings of recent franchise entries; extremely breezy, yet compelling and addictive. Pokemon weaponizes nostalgia and embraces change in one potent package that delivers the series’ best outing in years.

Pokemon: Let’s Go, Eevee! and Pokemon: Let’s Go, Pikachu! are an amazing glimpse into what a console version of the “core” Pokemon games will look like. It does such a good job of revitalizing an old game that I almost have to wonder if the entire point is to channel the wave of Pokemon Go players into the rest of the franchise.
Dalton CooperDec 25, 2018
Pokemon Let’s Go botches co-op and may feel like a step backwards in some ways, but in others, it is a surprising leap forward for the franchise. By streamlining many elements that made past Pokemon games frustrating, Pokemon Let’s Go successfully delivers a faster-paced Pokemon adventure, even though it has some missteps here and there.
Dave AubreyNov 13, 2018
My nostalgia for this series is strong and could've destroyed the fun I had with Pokémon: Let's Go Pikachu and Eevee, but instead galvanised it. This is the classic original generation of Pokémon, but it looks better, plays better, and feels incredibly refreshing. Pokémon on Nintendo Switch isn't just a Pokémon GO companion piece, it's a fantastic RPG in its own right, and with any luck, will spawn its own series of Pokémon games for the future. A great Pokémon game for veterans and newcomers. Now if you'll excuse me, I have a Pokédex to complete.

Pokemon Let's Go Eevee and Pikachu treads a fine line and almost stumbles into being too casual. It's a bit easy, even with the varied Master Trainers, and the lack of online options is puzzling but journeying throughout Kanto in search of legendary Pokemon is still as enjoyable as ever. Pokemon Let's Go Eevee and Pikachu captures the same thrill of crafting your own personal team and taking on both legendary Pokemon and trainers. The catching system removes the fatigue of relying on luck and the updated visuals give the already colorful world a lush modern look. If you love Pokemon you owe it to yourself to play Pokemon Let's Go Eevee and Pikachu.
Miranda SanchezNov 13, 2018
The Pokemon Go catching system is a more relaxing way to fill out the Pokedex and grind for experience, and I never felt like I was missing out on battles because of it. Kanto is littered with charismatic trainers ready to fight. Some irritating UI design and issues with its motion controls add up to be a minor annoyance, but the addicting capture cycle and great challenges in the post-game keep me coming back to play.
William SchwartzNov 18, 2018
While this methodology may be OK for a mobile game because the target audience is much wider, those who choose to go a little deeper into gaming and buy a console dedicated for it expect a little bit more. Let’s Go is surprisingly shallow when compared to just about any Pokemon game, despite an appealing presentation that returns players to a popular location.
Kirstin SwalleyNov 19, 2018
It’s the perfect title for longtime fans who want a relaxed experience, anyone who wants to try a Pokémon title for the first time or is just looking for something on the easier side to try with a younger relative. Pokémon: Let’s Go, Pikachu and Eevee! might not be a look at what to entirely expect for Pokémon’s future on console, but does a wonderful job as a first step moving forward from traditional handhelds.

Pokemon Let's Go might not be what I wanted next from the series, but I can't say I was left disappointed with it. Gamefreak's latest adventure manages to cut a lot of the franchise's fat while injecting something new into the formula. While I definitely don't want to see everything it changes brought over to Generation VIII, Let's Go acts as a refreshing change of pace for bother newcomers and longtime fans of the series.
Justin SharpDec 31, 2018
Overall, Pokémon Let’s Go Pikachu and Let’s Go Eevee achieve what they set out to in the beginning. They bring series’ veterans back into the fold while also making it easy for newcomers to see what the ‘core’ RPG games have been about all these years. The catching mechanic turned out to be a welcome change and it turns out I actually want more to change with the formula as a result. Here’s to more Pokémon in 2019 and hopefully there’s some fresh new ideas in store.
Ryan CraddockNov 13, 2018
Pokémon: Let's Go, Pikachu! and Let's Go, Eevee! are beautiful reimaginings of a video game classic, updating a 20-year-old game in ways which make it infinitely more accessible and user-friendly for a modern audience, while keeping the magic first discovered all those years ago. On the downside, the newly-introduced motion control mechanic is fun but flawed.
Alex SeedhouseNov 13, 2018
With more than 800 Pokémon scurrying around in tall grass and hundreds of moves to consider in battle, it’s easy to forget how daunting the Pokémon series can be for newcomers. That makes Pokémon Let’s Go, Pikachu! and Pokémon Let’s Go, Eevee! the perfect adventure for those that want to explore the Kanto region for the first time, resulting in a game that’s for everyone – whatever your age.
Samantha NelsonNov 30, 2018
The game does have bugs and flaws. My version repeatedly crashed when I tried to send a Pokemon to daycare. In one fight my Graveler was poisoned while it was underground, which should have made it invulnerable. I also wish that it had modeled the Pokemon Go update that makes it clear when a Pokemon is under the influence of one of the berries you can use to make it easier to catch.
Nadia OxfordNov 15, 2018
Pokemon Let's Go is engineered to let youngsters play along with their parents, but there's a lot here for veterans to enjoy, too. It's relentlessly cute and colorful, and while the challenge level won't blister your skin, the new Coach Trainers will keep you hopping. We're still not sure about the Go-style method of catching wild Pokemon, but Pokemon Let's Go's ability to link-up to Niantic's app offers a quick and easy way to fill out your PokeDex.
Jason FaulknerNov 24, 2018
Pokemon Let’s Go is best approached exactly like Nintendo described it. It’s an experimental side game and in no way a substitute for a main series title. Luckily, we should get a chance to experience a new core title for the Switch next year. As it stands, Pokemon Let’s Go is a decent morsel which will help pass the time until then.
Rudy LavauxNov 23, 2018
Changes may not be to every old time fan's taste but diving in with expectations kept in check, everyone may find in there a lot to be enjoyed, both for fans of Pokémon Go or the modern games... or even fans of both who will best be able to appreciate it. Controls are, however, a real issue and make things more frustrating than they need to be, holding back what is otherwise a truly brilliant package. A patch to make handheld controls available in docked mode would go a long way to alleviate much of that frustration...
Ben DyeDec 17, 2018
Despite notionally being a remake of Yellow, Pokémon: Let's Go, Pikachu! is actually packed full of new features and quality of life improvements - all in high definition for the first time ever - making it a great debut on the Switch for both fans and newcomers alike.
Kieran HarrisNov 13, 2018
It did, however, feel childishly simple due to some tweaks such as the default experience share and we disliked how the Pokéball Plus accessory forced Pokédex completion behind a paywall. We do hope though that Game Freak can go back to the drawing board with some of these criticisms in mind as we would love to revisit other regions such as Hoen and Jhoto treated with the same level of interactivity and visual polish.
Jake DurasamyNov 13, 2018
Pokémon: Let’s Go’s nostalgic charm and interactive gameplay will have both newcomers and returning trainers hooked as they explore the beloved Kanto region. Let’s Go mashes together these two different styles of Pokémon game into one streamlined format, and despite some slight annoyances, these remakes provide an intimate take on the classic Pokémon journey, especially when played with the Poké Ball Plus accessory.
GameCentralNov 13, 2018
We got a real nostalgic kick out of playing through it and rather than the dumbed down travesty we were fearing it seems ideal for those that have enjoyed Pokémon GO but never got into the console games. It may not be an entirely new game but the joys of catching, battling, and trading pokémon feel just as fun and engrossing now as they ever have.
Baz MacdonaldNov 22, 2018
Pokémon: Let’s Go is a fun, light nostalgia trip for long time players, and an easy on-ramp into the Pokémon console games for new players. Its greatest feat is presenting a stunning graphical style and approach which wonderfully blends players desire for 3D Pokémon games with the core tenets of the franchise – setting high expectations for the Generation Eight debut on the Switch next year.
Shannon GrixtiNov 14, 2018
Pokemon Let's GO ushers in a brand new era for the Pokemon brand and I couldn't think of a better way for the core franchise to makes its debut on the Nintendo Switch. The game's mechanics perfectly rides the wave of success of the Pokemon GO phenomenon. Some core fans will be disappointed and that's completely fine, but the direction of Let's GO Pokemon is clear and it succeeds in its mission to provide a simple, yet addictive Pokemon game that can be enjoyable for all gamers.
Steve WrightNov 14, 2018
I’m not entirely sure how to silence the little ball, but I’m glad when that feature manages to activate and I don’t have to apologise for random Pikachu noises around the office. There’s little to no documentation available on how to use the Pokéball, and that’s a shame. Pokémon Let’s Go mightn’t be for hardcore, competitive fans, but it will certainly win over everyone else. A vast majority of the changes are certainly for the better.
Carlos LeivaNov 13, 2018
Loup Lassinat-FoubertNov 13, 2018
Eugene AsseserovDec 06, 2018
Pokemon: Let's Go, Pikachu
Korhan ONUKNov 21, 2018
