Mega Man 11 is the convergence point for Mega Man and Mega Man X. This is important, because fans have been longing for new games for a while now. It might also satisfy the curiosity of non-fans who want to see what the legendary franchise is all about. But for fans of platformers in general, with no specific predilection for Mega Man, the game might be lacking.

Mega Man 11 is a good action game that you can easily identify with, but it's far too uneven and bumpy to hold up against some of the best installments in the venerable franchise. At its best, it's a terrific retro romp with exciting boss encounters and unique gimmicks. At its worst, it's a frustrating experience whose too-long levels toss out infuriating obstacles to progress at the worst times.

The Mega Man series is back, and with Mega Man 11’s ending indicating it’s here to stay, I couldn’t be happier. Even when taking this title’s problems into account, Mega Man 11 has finally given the series forward momentum for the first time in years, and I can’t wait to see where Capcom does with the famous Blue Bomber next.
