Manticore: Galaxy on Fire is an outstanding example of mobile-to-Switch done right. A gorgeous looking, content-heavy slice of space shooting action with a deep plot, set in a lore filled universe that has taken years to mature during a decade since the Galaxy on Fire series premiered in the mobile market.

Manticore - Galaxy on Fire is a simple but very satisfying romp through 3D space. For those like me who were waiting eagerly for this genre to arrive on Switch, Manticore makes a great premiere showing. While its origins on smart phones show through in spots, it still holds up remarkably well on console. Manticore is an easy pick for fans of the genre, and a great premier space shooter on Switch.

So, Manticore: Galaxy on Fire is a solid but unspectacular space shooter. As the first (to my knowledge) of its kind on Nintendo Switch though, it's a worthy starting place. It'll provide a long-lasting experience for those who approach it like the mobile-focused title that it is, while those expecting a deeper console experience may unfortunately find it a bit lacking.

Manticore: Galaxy on Fire is a good step up for the series. While it does feel a little short, and I would have loved to see a multiplayer mode, it’s a good experience for anyone looking to play a quick, on-the-go shooter. The missions are a little repetitive but the action-packed gameplay, beautiful graphics, and ship customization had me coming back for more.

Truly, I think the good folks at Deep Silver are a talented bunch, capable of making great games. Seeing them relegated to porting a mediocre game from the mobile devices instead of creating a new title that would better showcase their talent as well as the strength of the platform is a shame indeed. If you’ve been waiting for a quality game to fill that void until Star Fox makes a return on the Switch, you best keep waiting.

If you are itching for a new space shooter on Switch, you may be able to squeeze a bit of enjoyment out of Manticore – Galaxy on Fire, but you are probably just better to wait until Everspace or a new Star Fox comes to the system. If the game still interests you, it’s probably best to just check it out on mobile, where it is available for free.

Manticore: Galaxy on Fire is an enjoyable third-person space combat game set in a well thought out universe, pitting you as the newest member of a mercenary team investigating a horrifying event. With controls reminiscent of Battlefront 2 and minor customization options, this feels like a good introduction to the genre for younger gamers who aren’t interested in the online competitive nature of Star Wars just yet.

There's not much to praise about Manticore - Galaxy of Fire, and the game demonstrates that better hardware doesn't count for much if you don't update your game accordingly. Dogfights in space should be fun, but this game is unable to offer any valid entertainment thanks to its lack of soul, depth, and variation.

Galaxy on Fire - Manticore will certainly scratch the itch of any wannabe Maverick or Starbuck and provides slick space combat that is satisfying and easy to pick up. Some tougher AI would have been nice, but as it stands this is a fine example of the sci-fi combat genre.

Manticore – Galaxy on Fire is so needlessly boarding, I couldn’t imagine anyone feeling the need to purchase a microtransaction in the free-to-play mobile version, let alone paying over $20 for the game without them. If you were hoping for the new Star Fox or Eve Valkyrie, this isn’t it. Instead, it’s the only game I’ve ever played that managed to make shooting lasers in space boring.
