Coffee Talk is such an odd gem. It certainly has its problems, but none of them really hinders the game in a significant way. It’s an incredibly relaxing and thoughtful experience that anyone can enjoy thanks to its fictitious take of a very familiar setting. It may not have been the coffee shop simulator I expected, but had a good time playing nonetheless.

Story-heavy titles like Coffee Talk survive on the strength of their narrative and characters, and it’s safe to say that both of those elements are as fresh and satisfying as that first sip of coffee in the morning. Filling out the backstory of each character by correctly fulfilling their orders adds a neat incentive to return to previous days on the calendar, but it would have been nice to see an indication of which orders you messed up on as that would make fully completing the game an easier task.

Games in the 'visual novel' corner of the industry can often leave you a little cold unless you’re happy to watch an anime with a small amount of actual player interaction, but with its unique premise and interesting take on a fantasy world (think Netflix's Bright, but actually good), Coffee Talk serves up a refreshing brew of angst, introspection and coffee beans.
