Enjoy a unique take on medieval warfare in Zen Studios’ light-hearted action-strategy game – enhanced with new features designed specifically for Nintendo Switch! As rival fortresses attack your own, you’ll use a ballista to fling an assortment of weapons at enemy towers and spear approaching enemies, while sending your own troops and unleashing powerful spells. Battling opposing units up-close as an individual hero nicely balances the ranged combat, and CastleStorm’s goofy characters and richly detailed graphics keep it an enchanting experience throughout.

The campaign may only last for a few hours, but the additional multiplayer is good for days of fun. CastleStorm will challenge you, make you laugh, and keep you on your toes. Plus it will turn you into a castle building expert (if you don’t make the mistakes I did). For its price, CastleStorm is a gem, and a very noble addition to the Switch’s library indeed.
CastleStorm is a light-hearted and charming take on a genre made popular on PC, tablets, and mobile, and this particular effort from Zen Studios finds a worthwhile home on Switch. The colorful, cartoon aesthetic mixes well with the tried-but-true story of an adventurer charged by his king to reclaim a stolen relic. There is a sizable amount of content on offer here, and the gameplay can get pretty addicting in its simplicity.
CastleStorm does a good job of combining polished mechanics from other games with a decent script to form an entertaining game. It’s nothing spectacular, but it’s certainly fun. I sat down with it for about five hours the first day I played it and found myself eager to continue playing it the following day. That’s enough for me to give it a recommendation.
