Brief Battles has heart, but loose movement mechanics, and no online play or bot functionality make it too difficult to get the most out of this underwear affair. At £12.49, it’s not all that cheap for an eShop game, either.

Promised free updates may redeem this title down the line with better modes and more carefully crafted arenas, but for now, clunky menus and long load times make an obstacle out of even setting up Brief Battles, and excessive stage hazards, wonky controls, and trite objectives mean that the prize for navigating those menus isn’t worth it.

Juicy Cupcake’s debut title Brief Battles is a satirical gold mine that brings a lot of wit and charm to the party arena-based fighting genre. While Its lack of online multiplayer and depth to its single-player may result in the game only being loaded up during parties, the game fits right at home on the Nintendo Switch with two-player multiplayer built right into the system. Oh, and All Hail Kevin!
