My dad used to bring me to the Piers of Cagayan de Oro to spend time with him and his drinking buddies while fishing during the time of 8pm to 11pm. I was not fond of going to the sea waters as the water is pitch black and I can barely see what is beneath the sea below. That eerie sound of silence gives me the creeps. All you can only see and hear is the black waters and that sound of the water and the wind blowing to your face. Dredge is no different and it has that same vibes.

Dredge is a fishing simulation game developed by Back Salt Games and published by Team17, same publishers who brought Neon Abyss, My Time At Portia, and Overcooked., from New Zealand. You play as a fisherman who was looking for a job and sail to the coastal town of Greater Marrow as an Angler (a fishing technique). As you took the job and being the Angler for the town, you noticed that there are strange occurrences when night falls. Strange mists, ghost ships, hostile monsters and sea creatures, and that creepy feeling that you are being watched when you are in the middle of the sea. You will discover a lot of strange things about the town when you follow through the game.

As a fishing simulation game, it feels just like any other farming simulation games. During the daytime, it's like a regular finishing game. You fish and capture some interesting fish and creatures in the sea. You also upgrade your gears for fishing in order to grab better fish. Gears and upgrades for the boat for you to protect the hull, and upgrade your engines. A few people to talk and see from one island to another with interesting stories to tell. What makes this game so interesting is that eerie ambience of silence during the night, and those creatures that try to destroy you when fishing. There are fish that you may get at night that you cannot get during the day. Land formation that just shows up all of a sudden when it was not really there in the first place. As for your character, you may uncover the secrets of the town or you may go insane.

Controls of the game are good. As I played this on the Nintendo Switch, it was kinda sensitive when maneuvering the boat when on a tight spot between the two coastal rock formations. I noticed that when I flicked the analog stick just a tiny bit, that small amount of distance to move the boat can consume 1 minute. But when you idle the boat just without moving in the middle of the sea (maybe you went AFK to grab something to eat or what not), the time in game was not diminished, not one bit. It may be a game structure, but I am just pointing it out.

Character and game design is interesting to take a brownish color approach. I was expecting more of a gray-ish color since this is more of a fishy game. I give them a thumbs up for the color scheme. Character designs were like oil painted. Similar approach to Netflix's Arcane animated series. I love the aesthetic of it. It has that steampunk look. Overall the eerie mood of the night sea with that aesthetic makes me have to get the physical game. I am glad I did as it comes with a poster, a sticker, a mini artbook, DLC codes, and a digital soundtrack code.

In conclusion, this game is fun! Watching it for the first time with Paul G. makes me want to try playing. I don't know how the game is experienced when playing this on the PC or other platform. I am playing this on the Nintendo Switch and I had a blast for 6 hours in one sitting. I will be playing this game again and uncover the rest of the game. I am happy that I purchased the game physically. This game is available on most platforms, Windows, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
