I have been playing since 2017 and ever since. It has definitely had it's drama and backlashes but over the years, the game and the devs had changed for the better. For free to play players, you can definitely play with any of your favorite characters and still get good results. The game's currency are crystals and gold. Gold is easy to obtain and you can get 25 crystals from doing daily challenges and logging in will give you 100 crystals. 9/10.
