I had big hopes for this game. I like both Kingdom Hearts and Rhythm games. As a fan of these both of these I found this game just okay.

Probably my biggest issue is that I may have overestimated Kingdom Hearts' music. They do have the Utada songs, but the majority of the music is fairly generic background music. At very few points did I find myself humming along with the music. I will compare this to Theatrhythm, where often listening to that games music will bring back a sense of nostalgia.

An additional issue I have is that they could have improved the beginning of the game. You are pretty much just dropped into the song select screen. As someone who was hoping for a type of celebration to the series the beginning left me wanting. I even restarted the game to see if I missed something. This celebration does come later with unlockables, but the intro left me wanting, and first impressions are important.

We did complete the games and are in the process of getting all the stars, though some are very tough, so the gameplay loop is good. I wouldn't recommend it if you are not a fan of both Rhythm and Kingdom Hearts games, and even then I feel this game is missing the intangibles to make it truely special. And we bought it on sale, I can't recommend it for full price.
